No. 47: Yuantong Temple, Kunming, Yunnan

Yuantong Temple (圆通寺) in Kunming, Yunnan (云南, 昆明市), is upside-down:
One walks down from the Mountain Gate (山门) to the Main Hall (大雄宝殿).
A pond fills the space that would usually be occupied by a courtyard.

June 6, 2011 - Unlike the previous two temples, Yuantong Temple is located smack-dab in the center of Kunming. It was so easy, we in fact walked back to our hotel after one visit [for dinner the day before this visit].

No. 46: Huating Temple, Kunming, Yunnan

The mountain behind and the pond (池) of water in front makes the perfect
feng shui (风水) at Huating Temple (华亭寺), Kunming, Yunnan (云南, 昆明市).

June 5, 2011 - Unlike Qiongzhu Temple, Huating Temple is quite easy to get to. Although it is also located in mountains outside of Kunming, it is in the popular Western Hills area, where you can also find the "Dragon Gate" (Long Men), a monument to inveterate Ming-Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake, and other attractions.

No. 45: Qiongzhu Temple, Kunming, Yunnan

Qiongzhu Temple (筇竹寺) in Kunming, Yunnan (云南, 昆明市), is famous for its
Qing Dynasty set of 500 Arhats (五百罗汉). These are just a few of them.

June 4, 2011 - A few months after our visit to Guangzhou, my wife and I winged our way to Kunming in breathtaking Yunnan. Logistics caused us to arrive terribly late, so we slept in a bit and didn't reach our first destination, Qiongzhu Temple (named for a species of bamboo), until well after noon.
